nálægt Skäralid, Skåne Län (Ruoŧŧa)

This is the full extent of walking Skäralid on public paths from the Naturum at the parking lot and to the furthest climb up the ravine. The trip is one way and can be extended in many possible ways. Most of the walk is pretty easy except for the last 1.5km which is first on a stony and really quite unpleasant path and then in the end quite a steep climb from the bottom to the top.

Be sure to taste the water from Rårödpågens spring, it's very nice (avoid in cases of long term drought and low water)

Also take care to cross the stream around 4.0km, follow the signs towards Lierne and Liagården - but after crossing continue along the stream.

PS: Note that GPS reception in places was pretty bad and you may encounter false echoes in the track - however, just follow the clearly marked path, and there should be no problems.

There are a few possibilities to deviate from the route, and many for continuing.

After 1.7km the "Offavägen" deviates north to Kopparhatten. It's a steep way up but the views are stunning and it allows for a shorter route total AND returning another way than you came.

After 2.0km a bridge follow by very steep stairs deviates south. You can climb up here and follow the southern ridge back to Naturum. It will allow you to pass "Hjortspranget" (lit. Deers Jump) from which there are also stunning views.

After 3.3km you get to Korsskär. Here you can continue to the right up along the Drejebäcken, thus following Skåneleden - a long distance walking path through Skåne. After another 1.5km you have a number of different choices for returning back to Naturum. On the other hand, if feeling tired turn around here and return the same way you came. It's an easy and relaxing downwalk - and from here the going gets tougher...

After 4.0km you pass a bridge and signposts to Lierne and Liagården. You MUST cross over here and continue along the stream. You can also return this way, but its a steep climb and the paths are not good. But you will get straight up to Liagården where you can relax and get some water. For possible returns from Liagården see below.

Finally after 4.5km there is a less steep climb up and you can return to Liagården. There are also other possible ways back. From Liagården follow the southern ridge back to Naturum. It will allow you to pass "Hjortspranget" from which there are stunning views. This is the route that allows you to best take in the fullness of Skäralid - both from the top and from the bottom.

Here you see signposts to Lierne and Liagården. You MUST cross over here and continue along the stream on the other side. You can also go up the steep path to Liagården and return along the ridge, but its a steep climb and the paths are not good. But you will get straight up to Liagården where you can relax and get some water. From Liagården you can return along the ridge via Hjortspranget - and there are other possible routes from Liagården as well.
Here you can continue to the right up along the Dejebäcken, thus following Skåneleden - a long distance walking path through Skåne. After another 1.5km you have a number of different choices for returning back to Naturum. On the other hand, if feeling tired turn around here and return the same way you came. It's an easy and relaxing downwalk - and from here the going gets tougher. Between this point and the next, the path is really unpleasant and stony.

From here is a steep path to the ridge and Hjortspranget - you may return this way later..
The boardwalk continues to the end of Skärdammen. Along the boardwalk are several information boards telling about the forest, plants and insect life. So far still accessible with strollers and wheelchairs.
Here "Offavägen" branches off and back to Kopparhatten. It's a steep way up but, the views are stunning and it allows for a shorter route total AND returning another way than you came. From here the quality of the trail becomes slightly worse.
Here we cross back over Skärån and find a nice spring with drinkable water. The water is cool and tastes good, but avoid it in periods of extreme drought (both to preserve the waterlevel in the spring and because the water may be less fresh). This is the furthest point accessible with strollers/wheelchairs.
You pass Skärån (the stream running in the bottom of Skäralid) on a wooden bridge
Here at the bottom of Skäradam is a small park, just a few minutes from the large (and currently free) parking lot. Here you also find the Naturum (nature information center) with toilets, a small exhibition, a collection of brochures and an information desk selling maps and some books. There's also a restaurant but no general selling of water, soft drinks, chocolate etc. Before carrying on take in the beautiful surroundings with the swans and other waterfowl, as well as the nice view over the lake. This part is accessible with strollers and wheelchairs.
