Six day hike in Hornstrandir staying in a tent. Average of about 15 km each day so most days where not to difficult. Nice weather the whole time and great scenery all around. Saw many arctic foxes, some even came right up to us.
Sex dagsferð í Hornstrandum, sem er í tjaldi. Meðaltal um það bil 15 km á hverjum degi svo flestir dagar þar sem ekki er erfitt. Gott veður allan tímann og frábært landslag um allt. Við sáum margar Arctic refur, sumir komu jafnvel upp til okkar.

Hi, I am visiting hornstrandir mid of august and I was thinking of doing more or less this route, but in the opposite direction (I hear you can get some pancakes at the doctor's house in Hesteyri, which seems like a good goal after a multiple days of dried food). Are the trails any good or does it involve any scrambling? Any other things/dangers to watch out for?

Hi. In Lónafjörður where I ended you have to watch for the tide to get around the fjord. There aren't always very obvious trails, or at least weren't when I was there, but they should be visible for most of the way. There might be a little bit of scrambling, if you go the same way as me, between Hornvík and Hlöðuvík otherwise it's relatively easy.

Hi there, so this hike was done by yourselves or via organized tour? if by yourselves, how did you arrange drop off at Hesteyri and pick up at Lónafjördur?
kroatinn 7. mar. 2016
This was arranged by myself. Vesturferðir (http://www.westtours.is/) have scheduled tours from Ísafjörður and/or Bolungarvík, which you can see on their webpage. If you need any specific routes they can arrange that as well.

Amazing photos! In what time of the year were you there?
I am visiting Iceland in July and am looking forward to doing this route.
kroatinn 12. maí 2016
This was at the beginning of July, if I remember correctly.

Great!
I was also wondering how you got to the starting point.
Did you have a car? Is it possible to get there hitch-hiking or perhaps with public transport?
kroatinn 12. maí 2016
You need to get to Ísafjörður by car, either driving or hitchhiking. I don't think there is any public transport between Reykjavík and Ísafjörður. From there you take a boat to the start of the hike and back again.

Thank you very much!

Hi, Did you take the unusual way - go around the Hælavíkurbjarg cliff from Hlöðuvík to Hornvík ? Is it very dangerous as I saw other blog said some trail get pretty narrow and the steep slope down? At the narrowest section, there's a small rope to grab onto they said.
