nálægt French Gulch (historical), Montana (United States)
This is our favorite ride. The loop follows MT569 for about 3/4 mile, then joins a segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail through the Mt. Haggin WMA to the Dry Creek Rd. Then it follows the Dry Creek Rd southwest back to FS934, and follows FS934 back to the parking spot. The entire loop passes through spectacular scenery with the Anaconda Range in the background on the west and the French Creek/Deep Creek drainage below to the east. There is very little traffic except during hunting season. In the summer, the grassy bottoms that the loop circles are prime elk calving grounds, with the herds numbering in the hundreds. Happily, no roads come close to these bottoms, so the elk only have to worry about 4-legged predators. Some of the grass is so tall that the calves disappear when they lay down.
Travel west from Wise River on MT43 for 11 miles to the junction with MT569 (WP DC010). Head north on MT569 for 3 miles to FS934 (WP DC020), entering from the left. Turn on FS934 and travel 250 yd to an intersection (WP DC030) with room to park several vehicles. Unload and pedal back out to MT569 and head north 3/4 mile to the corrals on the left (WP DC040). You're done with pavement!
Turn on MT569, also known as the Mill Creek Highway (formerly MT274).
Turn off MT569 onto Lower Seymour Rd (FS934) and drive 250 yd to parking spot. Note that bike ride starts by backtracking to MT569 at this waypoint.
Wide spot at start of Lower Semour Road, just accross Deep Creek from MT569 (Mill Creek Highway). Park here.
Leave MT569 to left on gravel road headed toward corrals. Ride past corrals and merge with Home Ranch Rd heading to right or north.
Join Home Ranch road. Turn right.
Junction with 10 Mile Ridge Rd (actually a segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail). Head left across cattle guard.
Junction with the Dry Creek Rd (FS2483). Turn left and cross cattle guard.
Bridge crossing at 12 Mile Creek makes a great lunch stop
Junction with Lower Seymour (FS934)
