This is definitely one of those trips that should be done once in a lifetime.
We hired a local driver (Izet 0682258885), who besides driving us through the steep gorges, was so zealous to show us the beauties of the Alps.
The journey starts in the village of Tropoja and snakes along Tropoja stream, a tributary of Valbona river.
The road is in bad conditions, so it is not advised to take this journey by yourself, unless you are an expert of off-roads.
After 7-8 km the road goes through a beech forest before reaching the treeless pastures of Sylbica. Here the shepherds have built their cottages for the summer camping with their livestock.
Before reaching the Doberdol pass, the traveler encounters a very beautiful waterfall and a glacial lake.
Just passing the pass on the left side, a few hundred meters on the left is Dashi Lake.
The Doberdol and Sylbica valley are almost authentic if seen from above.
On the top, right side, is the Trekufini, the peak where the border between Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania meet.
From here, the road goes along the Montenegro Albanian border before reaching Cerem.

Hi, do you know if Izet is still available for this Track? I'm not too sure if I should drive this by myself with my Isuzu Dmax. Are there very steep sections? Which is the harder part? From Valbone to Doberdol or from Tropoja to Doberdol? Thank you

HI. Call Izet. He is an expert of the area. The worst part is descending to Doberdol from Sylbica. Izet just told me that the road is open from Cerem to Doberdol. From Doberdol to Sylbice is early as the pass has some snow left from the winter.

Thanks, mate 👍I will call Izet soon. We will arrive in Greek next week, then heading north slowly. So I think I will be at Valbone or Tropoje somewhere around beginning/middle of July. Let's hope the snow is gone by then. Another idea was just to drive from Tropoje to Doberdol, and the same way back (only if I know the other part towards Valbone is too difficult for me, as I am not so experienced). Cheers for sharing this track and those beautiful pictures. 👍

I think i will be there around middle of july. My plan for this year is Shkelzen peak by 4x4 Curraj i Eperm and Ponari Lake. I think Izet solves ot all. If you go to Doberdol from Tropoja it is half way to Valbona so is worth to go all the way Tropoje Sylbica Doberdol Cerem Valbona. I hope we meet in Tropoja in July and thank you very much for praising my 📸. :)

Do you know if it is possible to cross over to Plav, Montenegro somewhere along this route? And if so, how difficult is the road?

There is a connectiin grom Cerem to Hot of Plava. It is dirt road for 4x4 but i think it is not allowed to cross the border here.
